Abstract
745,558. Knee-pads. EXPANDED RUBBER CO., Ltd. June 21, 1954 [June 29, 1953], No. 17987/53. Class 141. [Also in Group VI] A knee pad for miners and other workers comprises a hollow domed resilient pad of approximately ovoid shape in outline, said pad having a ribbed internal surface, and a flexible skirt extending around a substantial portion of the periphery of the pad, but being interrupted at the lower end of the pad. The pad comprises a one-piece moulding 10, Fig. 2, of expanded rubber or other expanded elastometer, ribbed internally at 13. A skirt 14 extends round the periphery of the moulding. Straps 17 for attachment to the legs pass through slots 16 in the pad and lie in notches in the ribs. In another form, Fig. 6, a thin sheet 23 of expanded rubber is secured by adhesive to an internally ribbed cushion 21, and extends beyond the periphery of the cushion except for a short distance at the smaller end thereof, to form a skirt 24, the free edge of which is strengthened by a rubber strip 25. The cushion 21 is domed by cutting V-shaped notches in the sides, bringing the sides of the notches together and securing them with an adhesive, along joints 22. The sheet 23 is similarly formed with V- shaped notches. Straps 26, 27 pass between the sheet 23 and the cushion 21, and pass through slits in the former, which is there strengthened by canvas inserts 29. The joints 22 are strengthened by canvas inserts 31.
