Abstract
745,310. Converting rotary into reciprocating motion. TUBE REDUCING CORPORATION. Sept. 28, 1953 No. 26588/53. Class 80(1) [Also in Group XXII] A cam 19, Fig. 4, on the driving shaft of a rolling machine (see Group XXII), reciprocates through a bell-crank 21 and a controlling head 22 a rack 24, and the distance between the controlling head 22 and the rack 24 is automatically adjusted. The controlling head 22 carries a worm shaft 22a, Fig. 7, and a co-operating worm wheel integral with a rod 23 threaded into the rack 24. The worm shaft 22a is connected through opposed free wheel devices 22d to an arm 22c turning about an adjustable pivot 22l. Reciprocation of the controlling head 22 causes the arm 22c to rotate the worm shaft 22a by an amount dependent on the position of the pivot 22l on an arc 22n and in a direction determined by the setting of an arm 22h which is locked on one of the free-wheel devices 22d to render that device effective. Thus. the distance between the controlling head 22 and the rack 24 is progressively increased or decreased.
