Abstract

745,218. Copying-telegraphy. MUIRHEAD & CO., Ltd. March 4, 1954 [March 5, 1953], No. 6169/53. Class 40 (3). A drum carrying a sheet of material to be scanned by an electro-optical system is provided with a row or rows of pins projecting through holes or slots in its surface and appropriately spaced to engage with punched holes provided along the leading and trailing edges of the sheet. As shown, the corresponding holes 4a in the leading and trailing edges are engaged by the ends of pins 5 mounted in pairs on a shaft extending through the drum. In the loading position, the ends of the pins are spaced apart by a distance greater than that between the opposing sets of holes by the operation of a cam 7, and the sheet, after being threaded on to the pins, is tensioned circumferentially by springs 9 when the cam 7 is moved to the position shown. Two plates 10, 11 hinged on a shaft 12 are provided with fingers on each side of the pins 5 and are urged downwardly by springs 10a, 11a to engage the edges of the sheet 4. In a modification, Fig. 5, the pins 5 have inwardlydirected ends 13 with hooks 14 engaging in overlapped holes in the leading and trailing edges of the sheet 4 which is tensioned circumferentially by the action of the springs 15, 16 when the cam 7 is in the position shown. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), the edgse of the sheet are of waved form, the holes in one edge being interspersed with those of the other and the hooks engaging the two sets of holes are respectively urged in opposite directions.
