Abstract

704,152. Copying-telegraph transmitters. POSTMASTER GENERAL. Nov. 16, 1951 [Nov. 1, 1950], No. 26700/51. Class 40 (3) In facsimile apparatus employing a cylindrical drum, a sheet of transparent material is wrapped around the drums to press a sheet bearing the matter to be transmitted into close contact with the outer surface of the drum, one edge of the transparent sheet being attached to the drum, whilst the opposite edge is releasably attached to means capable of adjustment in such manner that the transparent sheet when wrapped around the drum is placed under circumferential tension. The sheet 1 of transparent material, such as celluloid, has at each end a pressed metal strip 2 formed with recesses 4, 5 and intervening turned-over portions. One edge of the sheet is anchored to the drum by means of a hinge pin 11 passing through the turned-over portions and tunnel portions 6 of a plate 7 secured to ledges 9 of a thick plate 10 fixed to the inner surface of the drum. The non-recessed portions of the edge of the sheet 2 engage tongues 14 pressed up from the plate 7. A recess 19 in the plate 10 houses a floating plate 18, Figs. 4, 5 carrying pins 15 engaging inclined slots 21 in a longitudinally movable plate 20 and guided by slots in the plate 7. For the disengagement of the transparent sheet, the plate 20 is moved to the right against the action of springs 23 and is retained by the shouldered portion 29 of a spring latch 26. After the insertion of the sheet carrying the matter to be transmitted to slots 17 in the free end of the transparent sheet are engaged with the pins 15 and the release of the latch 26 allows the plate 20 to move to the left, thus displacing laterally the plate 18 and moving the pins 15 in the circumferential direction to bind the transparent sheet 1 into close contact with the drum 3.
