In fluid-pressure braking apparatus for railway vehicles of the kind described in Specification 743,033 comprising a service application valve 7 operable by reduction in air pressure in a control chamber 23 to bring about a service application of the brakes by venting the equalizing reservoir 5 through a first choke 27, the said reduction of pressure is delayed by the venting of the air in a Timing reservoir 8 through a second choke 10 under the control of a magnet valve 16 which is opened upon the de-energization of the electric circuit or circuits. The timing reservoir pressure 8 acts in space 20 above the piston of a delay valve 12 so that when the winding 17 is de-energized to allow escape of air past valve 16 and through choke 10, the exhaust valve 21 which prevents escape of air from chamber 23 is closed sufficiently long to acknowledge the warning given by a horn 11 and re-energize the coil 17 before the brakes are applied automatically by the venting of reservoir 5 to atmosphere. In another embodiment described the timing reservoir and horn are operated by separate reservoirs or the application valve 7 and cut-off valve 13 are combined in one unit.
