Abstract

430,727. Fluid pressure and electric brakes. KNORR-BREMSE AKT.-GES., 9, Neue Bahnhofstrasse, Lichtenberg, Berlin. Sept. 16, 1933, No. 25704. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, March 17, 1934]. [Class 103 (i)] In a combined fluid-pressure brake and electromagnetic rail brake for vehicles, the rail brake is energized for a pre-determined period of time when an emergency application of the fluid-pressure brake is effected. The rail brakes 8 are raised by compressed air cylinders 7 supplied from a reservoir 3 through magnet valves 6, the reservoir being supplied from the main pipe 1 of the fluid-pressure brake system through non-return valve 2. The circuit of the valves 6 and of the coil of relay 12 controlling the current supply to the brakes 8 includes switches 10, 11, the switch 11 being normally opened by direct connection to the pipe 1 while the switch 10 is closed by the pressure in a reservoir 13 normally connected to pipe 1 through non- return valve 14 and a valve 15. When the pressure in pipe 1 is reduced only sufficiently to effect a service application of the fluidpressure brakes, the switch 11 is unaffected and the rail brakes 8 are not applied but an emergency reduction of the pressure causes the switch 11 to close to complete the circuit through valves 6 and relay 12 so that the rail brakes are applied. The fall of pressure in the pipe 1 also causes the valve 15 to disconnect the reservoir 13 from the pipe and to connect it to atmosphere through a restricted passage so that the switch 10 is opened after a time to de-energize the rail brakes.
