Class 80(3) A girder is formed from three rows of panels 1, 4a, 4b, 6a, 6b (Fig. 1) hinged together to form a ribbon which is wound from a drum 20 (Fig. 10), past cams 40 which guide the panels into a frame 32, 33 of triangular section to form a rigid girder of triangular section, the outer ends of the panels 4a-4b being joined by hooks 16 and pins 11. The invention consists in the grouping of the lateral rows of panels 4a-6b in pairs 4a, 4b and 6a, 6b, the panels of each pair being connected by hinges 7, 8 and each of which hinges is opposite an interval between pairs on the opposite side of the ribbon. When the panels are folded to rigid girder form the ends of the pins 11 on panels 4a, 6b respectively are locked together by a rotatable socket 16 (Fig. 9) on the pin 11 engaging over a bolt head 37 on the pin 9 and a radial extension 17 is engaged by a helical guide 18 to lock these parts together. Endless chains 28 have lugs 31 which engage in openings in the panels and lift the ribbon while it is being folded to girder form. The girder is unfolded by cams 41 to ribbon form again when wound back on to the drum 20. Specifications 483,364, 493,922 and 635,123 [Group XXV] are referred to.
