744,793. X-ray apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and BRYER, R. F. May 28, 1954 [July 22, 1953], No. 20368/53. Class 98 (1). [Also in Group XXIII] A clamping device comprises two arms adapted to grip an object such as an X-ray cassette placed between them and arranged to move towards and away from each other, and lever means associated with one of the arms bv means of a slot guided by a pin and arranged to engage the other arm or a member attached thereto to bias the arms towards each other under spring pressure. As shown, the arm 1 is formed on a side member 6 movable in guides (not shown) in a side member 4 on which the arm 2 is formed. A lever 14 has a slot 17 at one end embracing a pin 16 on member 4, and a spring-urged plunger 12 bears against the end of the lever. A pawl 8 is pivoted to lever 14 and lightly spring urged away from it. When a cassette has been placed between arms 1, 2 the lever 14 is swung towards the arms. Pawl 8 engages a rack 7 of ratchet teeth and as the lever continues to move the end moves back from pin 16 against plunger 12 until the pivot of pawl 8 passes an over-centre position in which lever 14 meets an abutment 21 and the plunger, acting through lever 14, pawl 8 and rack 7, urges arm 1 towards arm 2 to grip the cassette. When the device is used in apparatus for aerial radiography, it slides in carriage 23 by means of rollers 24.
