Class 97 (1) Cinematographic apparatus includes a device for automatically attaching to a take-up spool the leading end of a film which is urged or stressed in the advancing direction, said device having a confining guide channel for the film, which channel ends in a pivoted portion spring urged into a position in which its film exit aperture is presented to the periphery of the core of the take-up spool so that the leading end of the film is radial or approximately radial to the said core, this pivoted portion being located in the said position by co-operation thereof with the camera housing and the arrangement being such that the initial reaction exerted by the film in contact with the spool core upon the pivoted - portion of the channel is incapable of pivoting said portion against the spring. As shown, film 5 from a spool 6 is guided from between a gate plate 8 and a pressure plate 9 to a take-up spool 27 by means of fixed guide plates 10, 11, a friction roller 12 with co-operating spring plate 13 and a guide duct 19 which is pivoted about the axis 21 of the roller 12 and is urged by a spring 23 into the position shown in which a pin 25 engages the lower end of an arcuate slot 22. The outer portion of the roller 12 may be of rubber and the end 17 of the spring plate 13 is engaged by a blade spring 18. The arrangement is such that, when, during threading the leading end 5a of film passes through the duct 19 and engages the spool core periphery 28, the leading end is arrested in the position shown until the core slot comes into alignment whereupon the leading end automatically attaches itself to the said core. As film is wound on to the spool 27, the duct 19 rides on the outer convolution and pin 25 moves towards the upper end of the slot 22. In a modified arrangement (Fig. 4, not shown) this pivotal movement is utilized for indicating the length of film on the spool 27, a scale bearing plate visible through a window being formed integrally with the duct 19.
