Abstract
The invention comprises 4-aminosalicylic acid salts of heterocyclic carboxylic acid hydrazides and the preparation thereof by reacting 4-aminosalicylic acid, or a salt thereof with an inorganic base, and a heterocyclic carboxylic acid hydrazide, or a salt thereof with an inorganic acid, in an inert liquid medium in which both the reactants are soluble, e.g. alcohol or aqueous alcohol, and allowing the salt to crystallize out. The invention also includes the complex copper, gold and iron salts of the above salts and the preparation thereof by carrying out the above process in the presence of a salt of copper, gold or iron which is soluble in the liquid medium used. The preferred heterocyclic carboxylic acid hydrazide is a pyridine carboxylic hydrazide, e.g. pyridine - 4 - carboxylic acid hydrazide. The complex copper, gold or iron salts may be prepared by adding an aqueous solution of the metal salt to an alcoholic solution of the 4-aminosalicylic acid and the heterocyclic carboxylic acid hydrazide. The metal salt used may be an inorganic salt in conjunction with sodium acetate as a buffer salt, or an acetate salt may be used. Suitable metal salts mentioned are copper salts such as a copper sulphate or chloride, an iron salt such as ferrous or ferric sulphate or chloride, or a gold salt such as a gold chloride. In the examples, complex salts are formed from pyridine-4-carboxylic acid hydrazide and 4-aminosalicylic acid, and from pyridine-4-carboxylic acid hydrazide, 4-aminosalicylic acid and cupric sulphate in the presence of sodium acetate.
