Abstract

A semi-conducting coating is formed by fusing together 30 per cent silica, 16 per cent alumina, 22 per cent iron oxide, 13 per cent calcium oxide, 6 per cent magnesium oxide, and 13 per cent sulphate (SO3), all the percentages being by weight; after cooling the mass is powdered and applied to the operating surface of the alumina insulator of a sparking plug (see also Group XXVII). The insulator is subsequently heated to fuse and hence bond the powder thereto.
