Abstract

A neutral emulsion, e.g. of 5 to 8 per cent of aqueous ammonium caseinate, 2 of methyl hydroxy cellulose, 5 of trimethylol melamine, a little urea to combine with any free formaldehyde, and 0.1 per cent of chlorinated cresol as a preservative, is used in the production of paper of high wet strength. Its pH value may be adjusted to 6 to 7 by adding an alkali, and polyethylene glycol may be included as a plasticizer.
