Abstract
744,062. Mounting generator rotors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 25, 1953 [March 25, 1952], No. 8241/53. Class 35. [Also in Group XXIV] The vertical shaft 1 of a generator, having a stator 3, carries a bearing collar 4 connected by keys 6 to the hub 5 of a rotor 2. Upper floor braces 9, 10 are taken off to allow access to be had to the machine parts. The rotor 2 can be supported on a jack 13, the keys 6 removed and the bearing collar 4 detached from its shaft. A thrust bearing 14 may then be reached. Alternatively, the keys 6 can be removed and the rotor 2 lifted out without disturbing the bearing collar 4. The generator may be driven from a Kaplan turbine having an auxiliary motor to control the inclination of the turbine blades, and this auxiliary motor may be mounted in the bearing collar 4. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), inner and outer concentric floor braces cover the top of the turbine. The inner brace is taken off when the bearing collar is to be removed, and the outer brace is taken off when the rotor is to beremoved.
