In a braking system for mine winders, hoists and like equipment of the type described in Specification 743,804, the lost-motion connection between the slotted link rod 23 and the intermediate lever 19 may be adjusted either manually or automatically to take account of brake wear so that there is no decrease in the amount of lost motion when such wear occurs.
