Abstract

743,720. Overload-release clutches. TRICO-FOLBERTH, Ltd. March 4 1954 [March 4, 1953], No. 6053/53. Class 80(2) The arm of a windscreen wiper is pivoted to a head 1 which is connected to the driving shaft 7 through substantially a spring 15 and are formed with a pair of interengaging radial recesses and projections 11 so that the drive is disconnected on overload due to obstruction of the wiper arm. The shaft 7 is secured in a bore in the member 4 by a collet 9 and an externally-threaded nut 8. The head 1 is retained on the member 4 by a spring clip 23 and normally rotates therewith. The spring 15 is housed in the open upper end of the member 12 and reacts against a washer secured on a pin 17 whose flancylindrical clutch members 12, 4, whose opposed end faces are held together by ged lower end is held in a bore in the member 4. The member 12 is preferably slightly tapered and is secured within the head 1 by external splines. One or two locating flats are also formed between the head 1 and member 12, and a cut-away portion 25 in the flanged lower end of the member 12 co-operates with the clip 23 to provide a guide to the correct location.
