Abstract
The fat ingredient of a preparation for making a fat-containing cooked food is contained in a non-pervious envelope and the envelope is packed with the other ingredients, the fat being withdrawn from the envelope and mixed with the other ingredients before the cooking. Each ingredient or group of ingredients may be similarly separated from other ingredients. According to examples of scone and cake preparations, fat sealed in a non-pervious envelope, e.g. an envelope of regenerated cellulose sheet, is packed with flour, sugar, dried fruit, skim milk powder, salt, sodium bicarbonate and cream of tartar, and if desired, dried egg albumen, colouring and flavouring substances; according to a further example of such preparations, the flour also is sealed in a non-pervious envelope after being dried to improve its keeping properties. According to an example of a preparation for making treacle loaf, fat sealed in one envelope and sodium bicarbonate and cream of tartar sealed in another envelope are packed with a mixture of flour, golden syrup, black treacle, sugar, and ginger and spice flavourings.
