A riveting dolly for riveting hollow bodies comprises a hold-up bar supported in a guide casing which is passed into the hollow body so that the bar may be pressed against a row of rivets by one or several resilient forces, e.g. spring or fluid pressure, the bar being guided by articulated rods extending over the whole length of the bar and connected to one another in the manner of lazy tongs so as to hold the bar parallel to the row of rivets during hammering of any rivet of the row. The bar 2 of the dolly has a longitudinal recess 12 and is supported on a lazy-tong guide 3 carried in a casing 5. The central bottom hinge 13 of the guide is fixed to the casing. The ends 14 of the guide slide over the casing bottom and the top ends 15 have longitudinal slots in which slide detachable pins 16 screwed into the bar 2. A horizontal spring 4 fastened to the hinges 17 of the guide effects the lift of the bar towards the rivets 6. Alternatively, vertical pressure springs may be attached to the guide 3. For riveting, the sheet edges 1 are bolted together at several points and the rivets inserted from outside. In a modification, the guide casing 5<SP>1</SP> is extended above the bar 2 and is provided with flanges 19 which limit the vertical travel of the casing and also enables the snap die 18 to press together the sheet edges during riveting. Rubber strips 20 may be fastened to the flanges 19 to prevent damage to the interior protective paintwork of the hollow member. The casing 5<SP>1</SP> is supported in a U-shaped casing 8 and inflatable flexible tubes 11 are arranged between the casings 5<SP>1</SP> and 8 to provide for independent adjustment of the ends of the dolly to enable wedge-like hollow parts to be riveted. Cranks, screws and gears operated from outside the hollow member may take the place of the inflatable air buffers 11. Rubber-tyred spring-loaded rollers 9 are provided on the guide casing 5<SP>1</SP> and when the lifting means 11 is inoperative the rollers protrude through apertures 21 in the casing 8 to enable the dolly to be rolled into position in the hollow member.
