Abstract

418,422. Collapsable vestibules between vehicles. BARATELLI, A., Varese, Italy. April 28, 1934, No. 12877. [Classes 103 (iv) and 108 (i).] The supporting member of a gangwaybellows between two vehicles, e.g. a tractor and trailer, consists of a helically wound frame 4 formed from a flat strip and covered with a skin of leather linen, rubber or like material, the frame being prevented from sagging by one or more flexible steel bars 6, 7 arranged on edge in the central vertical plane of the passageway and engaged within guiding recesses 10 on the upper and lower transverse members of the frame 4, such bars being pivotally mounted at one end on one of the vehicles, e.g. the trailer 2, and at the other end being slidable in guides 14 on the other vehicle, e.g. the tractor 1. Preferably, rollers 11 are mounted in the recesses 10 for guiding the bars 6, 7, and permit the latter to flex when the vehicles are negotiating a curve. The floor of the passage-way is formed of boards 8, 9 which are linked or articulated to the frame 4.
