Abstract

743,049. Washing-machines. FISHER (OLDHAM), Ltd., H. Oct. 27, 1954 [Nov. 23, 1953], No. 32495/53. Class 138 (2). In a washing-machine comprising a pulsator 9 mounted for rotation about a substantially vertical axis at the bottom of a container 3, the pulsator is constructed as an imperforate circular member with substantially more than half of its upper working surface raised above the plane of its rim and divided by a transverse ridge into two portions 9a, 9b, preferably of unequal areas, so that the leading portion 9a increases progressively in height up to the ridge, while the trailing portion 9b progressively decreases in height, the remaining or third portion 9c of the working face being a flatbottomed depression or hollow below the plane of the rim, all the portions 9a, 9b and 9c merging smoothly without sharp abutments. The container 3 is preferably shaped as shown in plan in Fig. 9 with opposed walls 3a arranged at 135 degrees to each of the adjacent walls. The pulsator is arranged in a sump 6 which may be central as shown or off-centre, and has an electric heating element mounted below the pulsator. The rim of the pulsator is in line with the top of the sump. The pulsator is connected through a clutch and belt drive with a motor which also drives a vertical take-off shaft 18 which may be used for driving a wringer or ironer.
