Abstract

742,162. Broaching; trimming welded joints. BABCOCK & WILCOX CO. Nov. 9, 1953 [Jan. 9, 1953], No. 30966/53. Classes 83 (3) and 83 (4). A tool for trimming a welding bead from the inside of a tube 20 comprises an elongated cylindrical body 15 which carries an adjustable cutter 25, forward guide-rollers 30, 55 and trailing- rollers 50 which control the depth of cut. The upper rollers 30 are grooved to straddle the bead and the lower rollers 55 are mounted on pivoted arms 60 engaged by springs 75, the compression of each of which is adjustable. The cutter 25 has tapered sides and an arcuate cutting-edge. The depth of cut is set by setscrews 17 abutting the cutter 25 and by setscrews 41 which determine the positions of the two rollers 50 set symmetrically to run on both sides of the trimmed surface.
