Abstract

The spirally welded pipe (T) is manufactured as a continuous process and cut into lengths by flying cutters. These are mounted on a carriage travelling with the pipe and at the same speed. The cutters are serrated wheels (45), a set of three rotating freely in a holder (37) fitted to an arm (25) on each side of the pipe. These arms are cranked (26, 28) and swing about pivots (27) in their upper sections. The arms are clamped onto the pipe by an hydraulic cylinder (V), this imparting a scissors action to both arms together. As the pipe rotates (g), the serrated cutters shear through the metal.
