[Also in Group VIII] Apparatus for mixing, homogenizing or emulsifying comprises an impeller 1 having a worm-like body with one or more flights but without core and rotatably mounted in a wall of a container, and drive mechanism for rotating the impeller in such a direction that the liquid is caused to move from the base of the impeller towards its free end. The impeller may have the outer shape of a truncated cone with its larger diameter adjacent the container wall. The container may be shaped as shown in Fig. 1, or it may be rectangular with rounded corners, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown). The impeller may be arranged in a recess in a side wall of the container, Fig. 3 (not shown). In Fig. 6 the impeller 23 and its drive are mounted on the container lid, bubbles of air being sucked into the liquid by the impeller if its flights start above the liquid level.
