A dough sheeting mechanism for edible plastic material such as dough comprises a hopper 17, from which the dough is fed by a roller 16, which may have a fluted or serrated surface, into a compression space 15 between adjustable rollers. 11, 12, 13, 14 from which it may either be delivered through outlet 44 to an adjustable conveyer 57 in the dotted line position shown in Fig. 1, in which case the roller 14 is adjusted to close the gap 53 and rotated in a direction opposite to'that of rollers 11, 13, or, alternatively, two sheets of dough are delivered, one through gap 44, as above, with the conveyer 57 in the full line position shown in Fig. 1 and the other through gap 53 on to the conveyer 61, the roller 14 being adjusted to form the gap 53 and rotating in the opposite direction to roller 11. The two sheets of dough may subsequently be united in overlapping relationship, enclosing, e.g. a centre of agglomerated fat and flour, and pass through squeeze rollers 62, 63. The rollers 16, 13, 12, 11 are motor driven by chains 40, 41, 42, 43 respectively, passing over sprockets on shafts 39 (chains 40, 41), 38, 37, which are driven by meshing spur gears 33, 32, 31, 30, 34, 35, 36 from a stub shaft 23, alternate shafts rotating in opposite directions. The roller 14 is driven by two chains 45, 46 passing over sprockets 47, 48 which are loose on their respective shafts 49, 25 and may be engaged by clutches 51, 50 respectively. Thus by engagement of one clutch and disengagement of the other the roller 14 may be made to rotate in opposite directions.
