Abstract
651,713. Moulding dough. DEHN, S. G., (Day Co., J. H.). June 6, 1946, No. 17234. [Class 87 (ii)] Dough for bread is sheeted between presheeting rolls 91, Fig. 7, to produce a grain in one direction and folded on a conveyer 88 before sheeting again between the normal sheeting rollers 39-10 to produce a grain at right angles to the original direction. The dough is then passed to a curl-starter plate 52, Fig. 1, which starts to roll the sheet, then to a pressure curler board 72 which completes the rolling and elongates the resultant loaf to the required length and finally to a finishing or sealing roller 15 or belt. One form of presheeting rolls comprises adjustable rollers 91, Fig. 3, and a fixed shelf 94 which folds the dough with the aid of a hinged shelf 95 which allows the dough to fall, when of sufficient weight to form a load, on to a conveyer belt 88, travelling at right angles to the rolls and carrying the dough to the normal sheeting rolls which rotate at right angles to the rolls 91. In a modified form of pre-sheeting rolls the sheet of dough is curled to roll form by engagement with a curling roller. The flexible conveyer belt may be formed into concave form, to centre the dough, by means of a rigid cradle. The presheeter is mounted on a bracket 87, Fig. 1, at the top of the dough-moulding machine and feeds the dough to the usual sheeting rolls 39-40, rolls 39, 41 being flanged. Rolls 40, 42 are adjustable on eccentric bearings by means of worm gears 48. The curl starter plate 52 and pressure board 72 both co-operate with a travelling belt 53. The plate 52 is mounted on two pivoted arms 57 on a shaft 59. A bolt passing through these arms when tightened is adapted to press the arms against collars on the shaft to provide a friction control for the arms. The plate 52 is also controlled by a spring 60. Between the pressure curler board 72, which is adjustably mounted on arms 77 and the belt 53, the dough is curled to loaf form and elongated to correct length and then discharged between the finishing roll 15 and a pressure board 19 mounted on levers 21-23 interconnected by links. 26, 27 so as to be simultaneously adjustable by a worm gear 28. The roller 15 is formed of two telescopically adjustable parts having flanges at the outer edges to establish the length of the loaf. In a modification a belt is used in place of the roller 15. A modification of the curl starter comprises a chain-mesh mat and a further modification a moving belt in place of the plate 52. The various rolls are driven by chains from a main shaft 83 and motor 37.
