Abstract

741,291. "Lacing-up " thread-storage, thread-advancing rollers. LUSTRAFIL, Ltd. June 30, 1953 [July 9, 1952], No. 17307/52. Class 120 (2). A thread is " laced-up " about two mutuallyinclined counter-rotating rollers 1, 2 in figureof-eight loops, by apparatus comprising a shuttle 3, to which one end of the thread can be secured, means being provided adjacent one end of each roller 1, 2 for holding and releasing the shuttle, such means being so controlled that the shuttle passes between the rollers first from roller 1 to 2 and then vice versa, and so on until a sufficient number of loops have been formed. In Fig. 2, the control is electromagnetic, current from supply being connected through a commutator 30, 31 (or reversing switch) driven from the roller shafts, to brushes 28, 29, 19, 20, 21, 22 and hence by way of slip rings 15, 16, 17, 18 to windings 13 on electromagnets 7, 8. The ends of the shuttle 3 are preferably recessed to V- form and the pole pieces 11 of the electromagnets 7, 8 are correspondingly wedge-shaped. In Fig. 5, the shuttle 3 is held to one of the rollers by a spring-biased pivoted lever 38 or 39, the respective lever being swung to release the shuttle (for transfer) by rollers 43, 44 on a pivoted yoke 45 rocked up and down by a cam 47. In Fig. 8, the shuttle 3 is held to one of the rollers by a spring-biased pivoted finger 38 or 39, the respective finger being released by a cam plate 52 or 53 carried by an endless chain 54. The cam plates may be repeated, in reverse arrangement, several times along the length of the chain. In Fig. 10, spring-urged gripping blocks 56 or 57 hold the shuttle to the respective rollers 1, 2, the blocks being controlled by electromagnets 59, 60 energized through a commutator and slip rings 15, 16, 17, 18 as in Fig. 2.
