741,086. Making milk-churns. HAYLE ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and HAMILTON, R. T. Jan. 15, 1954 [Jan. 16, 1953], No. 1369/53. Class 83 (2). [Also in Group XVII] A milk-churn comprises a cylindrical body portion C, Fig. 1, and top and bottom portions A, B respectively formed of sheet-metal and joint re-inforcing bands 1, 5 formed from a heavier gauge metal and grooved as at 2, 3, 4 and 6 to receive portions A, B, C to which they are secured by fusion-welding. Various forms of joints are described, thus the grooves in the bands to receive the body portions may be undercut or the edge grooves are of such a depth as to provide a face which is of greater width than the thickness of the end of the top or body portion, thus providing additional metal for the welding operation. Alternatively the additional metal may be produced by flanges 60, 61, Fig. 7, formed respectively on the neck portion A and the body portion C. In the construction shown in Fig. 9 the bands and body portions are provided with angled overlaps 63, 66.
