Abstract
740,900. Drawing wire. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Sept. 23, 1953 [Oct. 1, 1952], No. 24581/52. Class 83 (4). In wire-drawing apparatus in which wire 14, e.g. copper or mild steel, drawn through a tube 9 having a restricted outlet or die 5 drags liquid lubricant into the tube, the viscosity of the lubricant, length and clearance of the tube and speed of the wire are such that the pressure near the outlet is sufficient for the lubricant to perform all or part of the deformation of the wire in advance of the restricted outlet or die 5. The die 5 is secured in a die-holder 6 having a flared outlet 7 and threaded on to the tube 9. Alternatively the restricted outlet may be an integral part of the tube. A mineral oil or an aqueous lubricant may be used. Specification 566,434 is referred to.
