Abstract

740,614. Cathode-ray tubes. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Oct. 9, 1952 [Oct. 17, 1951], No. 24172/51. Class 39 (1). One electrode of an electron discharge tube is supported on another by embedding a portion of an arm extending from one electrode in insulating material held in an aperture of the other electrode while the material is plastic and maintaining the position of the electrodes until the material hardens. A triode electron gun for a cathode-ray tube consists of a cylindrical cathode sleeve 1 supported by three radially extending arms 2 from a cylindrical anode 5. The ends of the arms 2 project into apertures 9 in the anode and are embedded in insulating cement 16 of paste form prepared by mixing alumina and potassium silicate. The control electrode 17 has three radial arms 20 and is supported in a similar way from the disc 22 at the top of the anode cylinder 5. The cylinder 5 and disc 22 may constitute the control electrode; in this case the anode is constituted by an element similar to 17, but on the opposite side of the disc 22, or by a wall coating. Jigs for assembling the electrodes in correct alignment and with correct spacings are described. Suitable dimensions for the electrodes and various elements are given.
