Abstract

739,158. Testing pipe &c. joints for leakage. HALL & CO., Ltd., M. July 9, 1953 [July 29, 1952], No. 19182/52. Class 99 (2). A channel ring 8 formed by a number of movable segments carries a grooved, resilient sealing ring 12 which is forced into contact with the internal surface of a tube 3, or cylindrical vessel, by a number of adjustable members, e.g. T-head bolts 5, disposed around the periphery of an inner channel ring 4. A stand 1, mounted on wheels or rollers 2 and capable of being pushed along the tube, carries the ring 4 and a tube 15 is provided for admitting pressure-fluid to the groove 14 of the ring 12 to test the welded joint 17. As shown, the bolts 5 are axially moved by nuts 9 and engage blocks 7 secured to angle sections comprising the ring 8. Plates 10 disposed inside the ring 8 are adjusted by set-screws 11 to increase the pressure on the ring 12, and G-clamps, Fig. 4 (not shown), support the ring 12 in the gaps between the segments of the ring 8. A tube 16 provided with a valve for the release of pressure fluid is fitted to the ring 12.
