Abstract
A pesticidal agent comprises a compound of the general formula [HalxR1.SO2.HN]nR wherein R stands for a mono- or divalent polynuclear aromatic radical wherein the aromatic nuclei are linked directly by a C-C bond, or by one of the bridging groups -O-, -S-, -SO2-, -SO-, -CH2-, -CH = CH-, -CO-, -N = N-, or are condensed, R1 is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, x is an integer, and n is 1 or 2 depending on the valency of R. The compounds may be prepared by condensing an amine with a sulphonyl chloride in the presence of pyridine or alkali metal carbonate. According to example (1) the tetrachloro-(4-phenyl)-anilide of chloromethane sulphonic acid is prepared by reacting 4-aminodiphenyl with chloromethane sulphonyl chloride in pyridine and chlorinating the product in o-dichlorobenzene in the presence of iron. According to example (3) the N,N1-bis - (chloromethane sulphonyl) - tetra - chlorobenzidine is prepared by condensing benzidine and chloromethane sulphonyl chloride in benzene with the addition of aqueous sodium carbonate solution, and chlorinating the product in glacial acetic acid in the presence of iron. The preparation of other sulphonamides is also described.ALSO:Textile materials, furs and skins are protected against the attack of textile pests, moulds and bacteria by impregnation with an agent comprising a compound of the general formula [HalxR1.SO2.HN]nR wherein R stands for a mono- or divalent polynuclear aromatic radical wherein the aromatic nuclei are linked directly by a C-C bond, or by one of the bridging groups -O-, -S-, -SO2-, -SO-, -CH2-, -CH=CH-, -CO-, -N=N-, or are condensed, R1 is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, x is an integer, and n is 1 or 2 depending on the valency of R. The preparation of various sulphonamides is described. The compounds may be applied as solutions in organic solvents, e.g. petrol or chlorinated hydrocarbons, as solutions, emulsions or dispersions in aqueous media, as additions to soaping, milling and dyeing liquors, and as powders, e.g. in admixture with sawdust, sand or talc.
