Abstract

The invention comprises (1) ethylene-bis-N,N1-nitro-n-propyl-carbamate, ethylene-bis-N,N1-nitro-isopropyl-carbamate, ethylene-bis-N,N1 - nitro - n - butyl-carbamate, ethylene-bis-N,N1 - nitro - isoamyl-carbamate, ethylene-bis-N,N1 - nitro - 3,5,5 - trimethylhexyl-carbamate, ethylene - bis - N,N1 - nitro-lauryl-carbamate, ethylene-bis-N,N1-nitro-cetyl-carbamate, ethylene - bis - N,N1 - nitro-cyclohexyl-carbamate, propylene - bis - N,N1-nitro-urethane, trimethylene-bis-N,N1-nitro-urethane and decamethylene-bis-N,N1-nitro-urethane; and (2) the preparation of these and other alkylene-bis-N,N1-nitrocarbamates of the formula: - <FORM:0918882/IV (b)/1> wherein R is a monovalent hydrocarbon group and X is a divalent alkylene radical, by reacting a diamine H2N-X-NH2 or a salt thereof, in the presence of aqueous alkali solution with a chloroformate RO.CO.Cl, and subjecting the product to nitration, e.g. with mixed fuming nitric acid and acetic anhydride.
