Abstract

738,670. Automatic flow control systems. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and DALE, S. H. Jan. 18, 1954 [Jan. 16, 1953], No. 1361/53. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XXXVIII] The fluid flow from a pump is measured by a mercury manometer 2 which through a cord 6 moves an armature 13 pivoted to a follower member 8 between inductances 11, 12, in correspondence with the fluid flow. Movement of the armature is detected in a circuit 16 by the differential variation of the inductances, the detector, through an electronic or magnetic amplifier and phase-sense detector, energizing the forward or reverse field of a motor 17 whose armature is constantly D.C. energized. The motor drives the follower member 8 through a lead-screw 18 to centralize the armature 13 and also drives a pump speed controller 19 for regulating the flow.
