Abstract
738,663. Automatic control of generators working in series. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 1, 1953 [Nov. 13, 1952], No. 28646/52: Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XXXVII] A plurality of mechanically-coupled motors M1, M2 alternate in a series loop with generators G1, G2, the excitation of the field windings F1, F2 .of which is automatically controlled for equality of load division by a circuit comprising a control coil a, a1 for each generator connected at one end to corresponding terminals of their associated generator and connected together at their other ends to one pole of a reference voltage source RV. The other terminals of the generators are individually connected to the other pole of the source RV through equal valued resistors R1, R2, through which, when the voltages of the generators are unequal, circulating currents pass. In consequence, currents of different magnitudes traverse the coils a, a1 and effect the changes in excitation necessary to restore equality of voltage of the generators. The coils a, a1 may be control windings of amplidyne exciters A1, A2 for the generators, or may be windings of magnetic amplifiers operating in a system as described in Specification 738,662.
