Abstract

835,732. Control of two D.C. motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO. Ltd. Sept. 18, 1956 [Sept. 22, 1955], No. 27098/55. Class 38 (3). Motors 1, 2 which may drive the top and bottom rolls of a rolling mill, are supplied from Ward Leonard generators 3, 4, and 5, 6, having field windings 8 ... 11 respectively. The bridge circuit formed by the field windings is supplied from a main exciter 14 as well as from a loadbalance exciter 15 having opposing field windings 16, 16<SP>1</SP>, which are energized in accordance with the currents in the respective motor circuits. When the machine 15 is excited by a resultant field due to windings 16, 16<SP>1</SP>, the bridge circuit is unbalanced whereby the motor currents are restored to equality of other predetermined relationship. The machine 14 has a pilot exciter 19 with a control field winding 20, furnishing a basic excitation determined by the setting of master controller 22, and a field winding 21 which is energized in accordance with the difference of voltages respectively derived from the generators 5, 6, and from an exciter 23. A field winding 24 of the machine 23 has its excitation determined by the setting of the master controller. As the voltage in the circuit of motor 2 increases, the voltage obtained from resistor 75 overcomes that derived from exciter 23 until the current in the field winding 21 is reversed and the resultant excitation of the machine 19 provides for operation of the generators at a selected voltage. Field windings 25, 26 of the motors are energized by main exciters 27, 28, having series field windings 29<SP>1</SP>, 30<SP>1</SP>, which are cross-connected. A currentmeasuring reactor 31 is in circuit with a field winding 35 of a pilot exciter 36 for the machines 27, 28. Field windings 37, 38 for the main exciters are connected in parallel and their energizing currents are differentially adjustable by means of rheostat 39. The pilot exciter 36 is provided with a control winding 40 which is energized in accordance with the setting of the master controller. Specification 835,734 is referred to.
