Abstract

738,495. Storing gases under pressure; tyrevalve connectors. SOPSA SOC. R. LSOC. PER LO SFRUTTAMENTO ANIDRIDI. June 26, 1952 [June 29, 1951], No. 16046/52. Classes 8 (2) and 99 (1). [Also in Group XXXIV] A portable gasstorage bottle 1, for inflating tyres or other pneumatic articles, has a lagged body sheath 2 and carries in its neck a valve 3 which accommodates an axially - displaceable gas discharge tube 5 having at its inner end a resilient sealing member 6 adapted normally to seal the valve body from communication with the interior of the bottle, a bell-shaped valve-operating handle 13 being secured to the tube 5 to surround and protect the valve 3 and the bottle neck. As shown, the valve 3, which has a gland nut 10 screwed into its outer end, is screwed into the bottle neck and the discharge tube 5 is screwed into the nut 10 for axial displacement, on rotation, limited by radial pins 11 in the gland nut 10 engaging in a groove in the tube 5. The tube 5 projects outwardly from the valve to receive the handle 13 and its projecting end is screw-threaded to receive an adaptor for connection with the tyre or like inflating valve. The adaptor, Fig. 2, comprises a base 15 and a head 18 connected by a resilient rubber or like bush 16, the base 15 carrying a tube 17 which projects into an annular rubber or like seal 21 within the head 18. The seal 21 is retained by an apertured cap 19 screwed on the head 18 and is deformable, to grip an inflating valve received therewithin, by cams 20a which act on a loose washer 17a adjacent the seal base and are carried on lever arms 20 journalled in the adaptor head 18. In an alternative construction to provide for operation of the bottle in inverted or upright positions the tube 5 of the bottle valve extends to open near the bottom of the bottle, perforations being provided in the tube in the region of the bottle neck. The bottle may contain liquefied gas, or suitable gas generating reactors.
