Abstract

738,489. Machinery guards. INDUSTRIAL GUARDING EQUIPMENT, Ltd. May 18, 1953 [Feb. 20, 1952], No. 4424/52. Class 80 (4). A guard for a hydraulic or pneumatic press comprises a transparent screen 2 of a thermoplastic material supported on pairs of upper and lower levers 4 pivoted at 5 on both sides of the press. The pairs of levers 4 are connected at the rear by counterpoises 6 to bias the guard into the open position. On one side of the press a pivoted control member 7, which actuates a valve (not shown), for supplying fluid under pressure to the ram of the press, is adapted to be operated through a lostmotion connection 10, 11 by a link 12 coupled to the lower lever 4. A scotch 16 also on the lower lever 4 engages a foot 15 on the member 7 so that operation of the control member 7 and hence the supply of pressure fluid to the ram is prevented whilst the guard is open. On closing the guard by means of a handle 17 on the front thereof the scotch 16 disengages from the foot 15 and after the lost-motion at 10, 11 is taken up the link 12 operates the control member 7 to supply pressure to the ram.
