Abstract
738,431. Rotary meters. KENT, Ltd., G. June 10, 1954 [June 15, 1953], No. 16468/53. Class 110 (2). Liquid from an inlet 2 issues from a number of holes 5 in jets parallel to the axis of the rotor the total area of through-way past the rotor being at least 1.75 times as great as the total cross-sectional area of the jets, and impinges on inclined blades 6 of a rotor 7 which drives indicating and recording mechanism 14 ... 20, before passing to an outlet 3. Holes 13 in the base of a cup 4 allow liquid from the inlet to act on the underside of the rotor to counterbalance the downward thrust on a bearing 10. Material such as nylon preferably is used for the rotor and gearing elements and nylon-filled phenolic plastic material for the cup 4 to allow resilience in case the liquid freezes and expands. A ring 23, in two parts, acts as a shear ring which ruptures if an expansion of material occurs in the rotor chamber. Dimensions of the various parts are given in the Specification.
