738,418. Garages. CULWICK, D. June 14, 1954 ,[March, 30, 1953], No. 8684/53. 'Class 20 (1). A garage comprises a platform 13 vertically movable in a pit 10 between an upper position in which it is at ground level and a lower position, the platform 13 supporting a roof 18 which is slightly above ground level when the platform is in the lower position. A roller shutter 19 is carried at the front end of the roof 18 and is locked to the ground when the platform is in its lower position, to close the slight gap between the roof 18 and the ground, a wall 11 closing the gap at the sides and back. As the platform 13 is raised, e.g. by an electric motor driving a winch or a pump, the roller 19 is unwound and maintains the garage closed. On being opened manually, the roller 19 may act to allow an electric switch to open, e.g. by spring pressure, to break the circuit to the electric motor and hence provide a safety device.
