Abstract

738,007. Attaching paper strips to envelopes. LAMSON PARAGON SUPPLY CO., Ltd. Nov. 19, 1953 [Aug. 19, 1952], No. 20838/52 Class 73. [Also in Group XVI]. Envelopes, e.g. pay envelopes, have adhesively secured to them paper strips, e.g. giving details of wages, deductions, &c., in a machine through which a paper web a is intermittently fed over a table 2, envelopes b carried in a magazine 6 being fed by a reciprocating suction device 8, 14, (see Group XVI) to bring each envelope in turn over the web a on the table 2 during a dwell in the feed movements of the web, vertically reciprocating presser arms 22 then engaging the envelope to press it on the web and a vertically reciprocating knife 27 or other severing device subsequently severing the web between adjacent envelopes to divide it into a series of separate strips each having an envelope attached thereto. The web may be provided with strips or patches of water soluble adhesive which are moistened by pads 20 or the envelopes or web may be coated with a heat sensitive adhesive and a H.F. heating unit provided to engage an envelope on the web. Instead of the reciprocating knife 27, the web may be severed along scored or weakened lines by means of a burster unit comprising pairs of rollers rotated at different speeds whereby the web is drawn taut against a blade located between the pairs or rollers.
