Abstract

Coal is washed by first dividing the feed into a coarse, and a fine fraction; the coarse fraction is washed by the sink-and-float method and the fine fraction is washed by a hydrocyclone, both processes using the same density heavy suspension and having a common medium-regeneration circuit. This latter may include a froth flotation step to recover fine coal. Specifications 601,063 and 604,368 are referred to.
