Abstract

737,776. Railway-vehicle axle bearings. NATIONAL MOTOR BEARING CO., Inc. Oct. 13, 1953 [April 28, 1953], No. 28181/53. Class 12 (1). Means for preventing a railway-vehicle axle journal 11 from contacting the sides of an axle box 13 when an upper bearing brass 12 becomes displaced comprise a pair of J-shaped auxiliary bearing members 31, 32 disposed in the axle box and slightly spaced from the lower part of the journal 11. The members 31, 32 are held in position by springs 39 housed in recesses 40 at their upper ends, or alternatively by a member disposed in the gap between their lower ends. The ends of the members 31, 32 may be chamfered to facilitate their insertion in the box. Each bearing member 31, 32 comprises two outer portions 44, 45 and a bearing surface 30. A member 41 threaded into a bore 42 may be used to facilitate assembly of each bearing member.
