Abstract

737,682. Earth-excavating apparatus. PRZYBYLSKI, D. F. Dec. 16, 1952, No. 31910/52. Class 68(1). An earth-excavating machine of the drag-shovel type has a boom-supporting mounting detachably secured to a vehicle, and said mounting comprises a subframe 17 bolted to the vehicle chassis and a braced frame 26 secured at right angles to the frame 17 on the tubular transverse member 18 thereof. Rotatably mounted in bearings 31, 32 is a turn post 30 that pivotally supports the boom 68. Rotation of the turn post is caused by the interconnected pistons of rams 38, 39 acting on a cable 37. The ends of the cable are secured, as are the rams, to ears 44, 45 on the member 18, and it passes over pulleys 48, 49 on the piston coupling 46 and guide pulleys 50, 51 to be secured about a sheave 33 on the turnpost 30. Adjustable stabilizer legs 99 are provided at the ends of member 18. The boom is cranked and is raised and lowered by a ram 70. One end of the cylinder of the ram is connected to ears 35 on the turnpost and the other end is provided with rollers 76 that move on cam surfaces formed on side plates 80 secured to the boom. The dipper stick 84 is operated by a ram 87 disposed beneath the boom, and the bucket 83 is operated by a ram 92.
