Abstract

Cleaning and degreasing apparatus particularly adapted for cleaning colliery cage-suspension gear and other metal articles comprises a tank a partitioned at d to form a chamber e, in which the articles are sprayed from above with hot cleaning solution, with a perforated floor g beneath which is disposed a sludge trap where the used solution is collected, and a scum trap f to which the solution flows over a weir n, the scum trap being provided with internal heating means h which also provides heating gases for a jacket b<SP>1</SP> partly surrounding the tank; a pump j delivers liquid from the scum trap to the spraying pipe m. Sludge and scum are removed at p and r respectively.
