Abstract

736,331. Sanding tool. VIVIAN, C. H. March 19, 1954 [Oct. 13, 1953], No. 28231/53. Class 60. A hand sanding tool has a frame 1 of strip metal, the rear extremity being bent upwardly at 2 to serve for attachment of a handle 3, the opposite end being bent upwardly and rearwardly at 4 to form a hand grip. A right angle bracket 8 is spot welded or riveted to the upper surface of the frame and supports a roller carrying strip abrasive material 7 ; the roller is secured to the bracket by a bolt passing axially through the roller and through an openended slot 13 in the bracket and secured by a wing nut 11. The end of the strip is threaded through slots 5, 6 in the frame portion 4. A bracket 14 of channel shape has limbs 15 turned inwardly to engage the inner face of the part 2, the base of the channel being topped to receive a stud 16 rigidly associated with the wooden or other handle 3 ; the head 17 of the stud engages the strip to hold it taut. The strip 7 is wider than the frame, the edges of the strip being turned upwardly to embrace the frame edges. An attachment member of arcuate or other sectional shape may be secured to the frame for dealing with surfaces which are not flat.
