A composite material for cleaning or polishing metal articles, furniture or silver articles comprises a carrier strip of cellulose sponge or wadding impregnated with a cleaning or polishing composition and provided with a backing of aluminium or other metal foil secured thereto for example by adhesive or stitching, the strip then being folded in zig-zag fashion.
