A label holding tab, for use on a file folder 7 or the like having along an upper edge a rigid bar 6 with its lower edge turned up and rearwardly to form a channel 9, comprises a single piece of sheet material 1 with its upper and lower edges 2, 4 turned over to form channels 3, 5 to receive the upper and lower edges of a label 18 and/or a transparent sheath 19 the lower edge 4 being adapted to slide in and engage the channel 9 in the bar 6 to prevent upward pull-off and the tab having one or more tongues 10 projecting rearwardly to hook over the top of the bar 6. The bar 6 is provided with hooked ends for suspension on rails and has depressions 14 or holes 24 for positioning the tab. The tab 1 has a flat central part 15 and flat upper and lower parts 16, 17 forming a forwardly convex shape to facilitate removal and insertion of the label 18, a central hole 21 being provided for gripping the label. The projections 10 are pressed out of the lower part 17. As shown in Figs. 1 and 4, a resilient tongue 11 is formed centrally by cutting away at 12 and a projection 13 is formed in the tongue adapted to engage one of the depressions 14. Side lugs 20 are bent forward at each side of the flat parts 16 and 17 to form abutments to hold the label longitudinally. As shown in Fig. 5, a single central projection 22 is pressed out rearwardly from the flat part 17 and two forward projections 23 are pressed out of the lower edge 4 so that when the lower edge 4 is engaged in the channel 9, the projections 23 press the tab rearwardly so that the projection 22 engages one of the holes 24. A vertical slot 25 is made at either side of the tab and the ends 26 forced forwardly to form end abutments.
