Abstract

686,388. Loose-leaf binders. BOSWELL, I. I. Jan. 1, 1951. [Oct. 5, 1949] No. 25627/49. Class 146 (i) [Also in Group XXV] A device for securing paper or other sheets together comprises a length 10 of thin resilient metal strip, spring wire, or synthetic plastic material having end portions 12 adapted for insertion in holes 13 in a pile of sheets 18 when an intermediate portion 11 of the device is bent to U-form, the end portions being permanently stepped as at 17 with respect to the portion 11, so that when the portion 11 is straight the end portions lie in a plane slightly displaced from, but substantially parallel with that of the portion 11. The portion 11, which is preferably wider than the portions 12, may be transversely curved. Each step 17 may be provided with a sleeve, or with S-shaped ears, to protect the punched holes in the sheets. A metal top piece through which the portions 12 extend may be provided to assist holding the sheets together, while the intermediate portion 11 may be secured to a cover sheet of cardboard constituting or forming part of a file or backing sheet.
