Abstract

919,032. Loose-leaf binders. BRINKMANN TO BROXTEN, R. May 22, 1959 [June 12, 1958 (2); Dec. 30, 1958], No. 17579/59. Class 146 (1). A loose-leaf binder comprising two covers 16, 17 hinged together and having an internal stub or flap 4 attached to or integral with one of the covers, is provided with two separate resiliently flexible filing tongues 1 detachably secured to the stub 4 by means of a notch or recess in each tongue engaging perforations in the stub, the free ends of the tongues extending through perforations in a second stub or sheet attached to or integral with the other cover and lying transversely of the hinge when the binder is closed. The filing tongues are formed from strips of plastic material having two opposed notches cut in their sides and attached to a stub 4 by slits 6, 8 therein, arranged at rightangles to each other, Fig. 2. Alternatively, the tongues are provided with enlarged heads having two spaced flanges engaging each side of an aperture in the stub. One flange may be provided with two diametrically opposed lobes and the stub provided with keyhole shaped apertures. One flange may taper towards its outer edge to increase its flexibility and facilitate engagement with an aperture in the stub. The covers 16, 17 have folded over edge portions 18 stapled to each other to form a stub 4, Fig. 13, or to one or two interposed channel-shaped strips 20 to form two or three stub portions 4, Fig. 8. A binder formed with two stubs may have one filing tongue attached to each stub, which passes through an aperture in the other stub, Fig. 14 (not shown). Alternatively, a sheet 33 is secured to the cover 16 by lines of adhesive and slotted at 34 to receive the ends of a card 30 loosely inserted between the sheet 33 and cover 16. The card 30 has two rows of aligned slits to receive the free ends of the filing tongues and two projections at one edge, so that it may be used as a sheet transfer device. In another embodiment, the sheet 33 is provided with two rows of aligned slits to receive the free ends of the filing tongues.
