735,732. Lamps. AMALGAMATED DENTAL CO., Ltd., and HOLOPHANE, Ltd. May 17, 1954 [Feb. 16, 1953], No. 4235/53. Classes 75 (2) and 75 (4). A lamp, especially for use as a dental-operating lamp, comprises a reflector shaped as a segment of an ellipsoid extending through an axis thereof, and which may be formed in two separate halves 1, 2, Fig. 3, a light source, e.g. an electric lamp bulb 12 located on said axis or adjustable to be so, and a front cover comprising two spaced transparent panels 4 symmetrically disposed. on opposite sides of a plane passing through the said axis and fluted in a direction normal to that plane. The transparent panels 4 are spaced apart by an opaque panel 5, Fig. 1, provided with a condensing lens 9 in a mounting 8 for directing a light beam in a direction diverging from the axis of the reflector, the mounting 8 being rotatable for varying that direction. The panel 5 may, alternatively, or in addition, be provided with a window 7 of translucent glass. The sides of the lamp casing are flat. When utilized as a dental operating lamp the light transmitted through the panels 4 may illuminate a patient's mouth, the light beam transmitted through the lens 9 may be used for illuminating work by the dentist away from the patient, and the window 7 may be used for illuminating the negatives of X-ray photographs. A further construction is described in which the reflector is formed in one piece, the sides of the lamp casing are dished inwardly, the fluted transparent windows are inclined relatively to the reflector axis, and the mounting of the condensing lens is not rotatable.
