[Also in Group XXIII] Relates to a pump for a windshield washer (see Group XXIII), in which the pump is in the form of a bellows 14 having an elastic wall 17 distensible under liquid pressure resulting from the application of an external distorting force to the bellows, the wall 17 when so distended serving to maintain pressure on the liquid within the bellows and to provide a continuous delivery of liquid when the elastic wall is distended. The bellows 14, made of natural or synthetic rubber is connected by a conduit 13 to a reservoir (not shown) and to a nozzle (not shown) by conduits through a check valve having the usual non-return ball valves. Referring to Fig. 2, the bellows has a heavy top wall 15, and a thick bottom wall 16, clamped to a tubular member 19 connected to the conduit 13, the top and bottom walls being connected by the thin elastic wall 17. When the bellows is compressed by foot pressure as shown in Fig. 3, the liquid in the bellows is placed under pressure owing to the restricted capacity of a discharge passage 22 in the member 19. This liquid pressure distends the wall 17 to the full line position in Fig. 3. The restoring force of the side wall maintains the pressure and continues to force liquid through the passage 22 as shown in broken line in Fig. 3. Bosses 36 on the wall 15 prevent the wall closing-off the passage 22.
